Dinner: Monday, January 7, 2019

Much to my surprise, the wife took a shot at making take out Chinese food for dinner tonight. Well, I said much to my surprise, but I’m not really surprised. She’s worked hard to expand her fantastic cooking chops into unfamiliar terrain, including not only Chinese but Thai and Mexican as well. But I digress. The wife’s offering tonight was Orange Chicken with steamed rice. It wasn’t perfect, but it was really good for a first attempt. The best part was the crispiness of the fried coating. It stood up nicely to the orange sauce and remained crispy. The sauce itself was good, but a bit on the tart side when compared to our usual take out haunts. I also thought the meal overall could have used a little more seasoning. If I did numeric scores, I’d give the wife a seven out of ten for her first foray into orange chicken. Looking forward for to her second attempt.

Review: Hell’s Kitchen Chipotle Chocolate Hot Sauce

I received this hot sauce, Hell’s Kitchen Chipotle Chocolate Hot Sauce, as a gift and part of a gift pack with several hot sauces. I am a fan of the show, but not of this hot sauce. I don’t think that this has anything to do with the show outside of having some company slap a logo on it and sell it. Got to love merchandising. But since it is here, I went ahead and gave it a go. For full disclosure, I am a great lover of hot sauces, from super hot to full of flavor. This one did not make the grade. It is high on on acid content and the combination of flavors is just strange. Not because it is chocolate and chipotle, but there is some odd flavor in the background that tastes mechanical or chemical, not sure which yet. Nor will I be finding out. This is the only hot sauce I have ever thrown away right after trying it out. Right into the trash it went, where it belongs. Stay away from this hot sauce and stay away from the set. If it given to you, regift it to someone you don’t like.

Lunch: Thursday, January 3, 2019

So, it is not unusual for my lovely wife to pack up leftovers, for my lunch at work, from dinner the night before, and when it is her potato and chicken yellow curry with jasmine rice, I don’t complain at all, as it is one of my favorite things to eat. Yes, it does start with a prepared yellow curry sauce, my current favorite, Mae Ploy Thai Yellow Curry Sauce, but she then spices it up with either Thai chili peppers, habaneros or one of the other varieties that we have begun growing at the house. I highly recommend this one if you don’t have time to make your own yellow curry sauce from scratch. It is also vegetarian before you add whatever ingredients you want, it is useful for vegetarian curries, which the wife often makes me when I am dieting. Either way the flavor is excellent and I look forward to this meal very much, for lunch or dinner. Even my youngest child loves this one.

Thursday Lunch: June 28, 2018

More of the wife’s fantastic cooking in left over form for lunch. This time it’s leftover Chicken JalapeƱo Popper Pasta Cassarole. As my wife knows, I’m a huge fan of cassaroles, which benefits us both quite often since they tend to be easy and quick to make. This one features chicken, lots of cheese, pasta, jalapeƱos for a mild kick and some cream cheese as well. I can and will attest that not only was it really good when she made it for dinner a couple of nights ago, but it also is a fine lunch as leftovers. Can’t wait to see what’s going to be on the menu for dinner.

Wednesday Dinner: June 27, 2018

Again, been on a hiatus from the diet for a bit, and thus been having more variety for dinner than usual. The wife surprised me tonight with her chicken and potato yellow curry with Jasmine rice for dinner. She knows it’s one of my favorites. I love the spice and the creamy texture that the coconut cream brings to it.

She also made up a cake for dessert as well. Not exactly sure what the name is, but it had pineapple, orange and whipped cream involved. Really enjoyed it. The wife does a great job, especially when she’s on summer vacation. Lol.

Wednesday Lunch: June 27, 2018

As some of you know, I’ve been losing weight by eating a mostly vegetarian diet during the week, at least until the last couple of months or so. Various things have upset the apple cart so to speak, but I’ll soon be back to it. Prior to that I had left over Hamburger Helper Lasagna for lunch. Lol. It’s a childhood favorite and still my favorite of the Hamburger Helper line-up. Granted it’s not gourmet, but not everything needs to be. Foodie snobbery is nonsense. Loving food is all about enjoying what you love, cheap, expensive, both, whatever it may be.

Sunday Lunch March 25, 2018

Sunday lunch with the wife at a pizza joint just down the street from us, Googly’s. They have a large, varied menu for a pizza place including pizza, burgers, wings, pasta, subs, etc. They’ve been open a few years and used to be one of our favorite places to get pizza and burgers, but last time we were here a year or so ago, we had something of a customer service issue and we hadn’t been back since. Hopefully that won’t be the case today. Driving up, they have upgraded their outside signage significantly, but the menu that they usually have on monitors behind the counter isn’t working.

The wife has chosen the Jack Daniels burger, it has cheddar, a Jack Daniels barbecue sauce and fried onion strings on it. I went with a standard double burger and a sausage and pepper sub. We ordered the spicy fried mushrooms and the sweet potato fries. Hopefully things are back to their previous quality.

Sunday Lunch

It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon, all sun and cool breezes on the Texas Gulf coast. Had originally planned to be in Houston today for a meet up with other Fiat owners, Fiats and Fraps, but after St. Patrick’s Day

celebrations last night I couldn’t bring myself to get up at six a.m. to make the drive. Lol. Hopefully the next one is more conveniently scheduled. On the plus side, today is my mom’s birthday so the wife and I are taking my parents out to lunch instead of dinner as originally planned. Waiting outside of Mikoto Ramen Bar for them right now. One of my new favorite places. Ready to eat. Lol
